PROTEST: Stop Trump - Fight the Far Right

1pm Sat 5 April - State Library

CARF has stood against fascism and racism in Australia for years now. We have been successful in keeping the far right on the margins, including by shutting down their gym in Sunshine last year. But we are watching with concern as Trumpism and the far right grows in strength internationally.

In just a few weeks, Trump has launched attack after attack on oppressed people. In the first few months of his presidency we have witnessed attacks on trans people, on women, on minorities, on migrants, on Palestine activists, and on the American working class. He has empowered fascistic billionaires like Elon Musk to strut about on the world stage, and unleash massive attacks on social services and public employees.

All of this has strengthened the far right in America, and emboldened the far right across the world.

In Australia, figures like Peter Dutton, Pauline Hanson and Clive Palmer have been using Trumpist rhetoric and policies to whip up sexism, racism and other forms of bigotry. We have also seen a substantial increase in anti-Indigenous backlash following Dutton’s successful effort to defeat the Voice referendum.

Enough is enough.

Ahead of the upcoming federal election CARF is calling for a rally in opposition to these right-wingers, who have been mirroring Trump in promoting racism, sexism, and bigotry in this country.

We are also demanding that the government tear up AUKUS and end the US alliance, both of which mean that both the major parties have failed to call out Trump’s appalling rhetoric and policies and make it more likely that working class Australians will be involved in future American wars and conflicts. Instead of spending money on nuclear attack submarines, we need to be supporting public schools, hospitals and social services.
